Are Rat tarriers hypoallergenic?

My daughter is allergic to dogs but won't except it lol. I want to get her a dog for her birthday but all the hypoallergenic dogs I have found are like $500+ and I really only wanted to pay under $200. She is really good around all kinds of dogs no allergy problems but the doctor said a blood test showed that she is allergic. I don't want to get a hair less dog either. Please help.

I used to breed Maltese, had 5 in the house full time, and you'd find more of my hair than theirs in there! Though, truth to be told, if her allergies are bad enough, she'll be allergic to even the maltese. I sold them to people with allergies, and only had 1 returned. That poor little girl swelled up overnight! It was so sad.

Whatever you do, make sure that the breeder understands your situation and is willing to take the pup back if you are unable to keep it for this reason.

I was on the borderline of being allergic to dogs when I got my rat terrier. We put allerpet on him (found in any pet store) on him after every bath. That helps. They don't shed much either. But totally get the rat terrier. It was the best dog I have ever had and I don't think allergies so cause too much of a problem. Maybe keep the dog off of your daughters bed to help.

Rat terriers are just short haired dogs and do shed.

Poodles are a better choice because their coat is different and they don't shed. many people with allergies are not bothered by poodles.

I would take your daughter to a pet breeder and let hold a poodle and and see how she re-acts.
