We have an 8 year old boston terrier. Yesterday, he came inside with a big hunk of dirt and gravel on one of his back paws. (on the pad and between his nails) On closer observation, underneath the gunk was a big chunk of bubble gum. We used some ice to try to get it to separate, but now he has some caught in the hair beteen his nails. Help??

One thing you could do is soak his paw in ice water. That'll loosen up the gum that's still there. You'll also probably have to cut the hair between his nails to get it out completely. Once the gum loses it's stickyness, it'll fall out on it's own but I'm sure he's bringing in more dirt and gravel with every trip outside as long as the gum has some stick. You may also want to try a bath and use his shampoo on the area.

For removing chewing gum from hair, rub mayonnaise into hair and rub between fingers. Gently remove with a paper towel.
