i dotn take him to the grooming salon becasue its expensive and innecessary. pugs dont even have hair and my dog lives inside the house but i do give in a bath like every 2 weeks and i want to trim his nail....any tips or somewhere that is cheap?

First, you really need to stop bathing him so much. You've stripped all the oils out of his coat and are drying both his skin and coat out pretty badly. Dogs should only be bathed when absolutely necessary, and definitely not more than once a month. Give this poor puppy about 1 teaspoon of either olive oil or vegetable oil on his food daily to start repairing the damage.

If you don't know how to cut nails, why not get them done at your vet's office? They don't charge very much to trim nails and the vet techs would be happy to show you how to do it so you can keep clipping them.

You can do it yourself, at Walmart they sell special dog nail clippers and it even tells you on the back how you will have to cut them, NEVER use a regular pair of toenail clippers, dog's toe nails need to be cut at a certain angle and length.

when i took my 3 1/2 month old pug to the vet they clip his toe nails for 5 bucks. It's worth it too me b/c he's a little guy but WOW he hates his toes clipped. lol

You have to be extremly careful when cutting a dogs nails, because alot of dogs have veins in their nails and if you cut them too short then they'll bleed out. Have a professional show you first how to cut the nails and buy the right utensils from a pet store when you think you know how to do it right.

there are sites about nail trimming on line but I like to use a Dremel tool and gring the nails down. That way they are smooth and it goes fast. Some vets charge $5. to do nails around here.

I really enjoy the Dremel battery operated tool; you can do a better job of filing than clipping and it usually doesn't risk cutting too short then bleeding.

I think I got my Dremel in the pet dept; but check out hardware sections for it, mine uses 4 AA batteries.

My parents used to have a bulldog who HATED having her nails cut for the obvious reason that their toes actually grow inside their nails and so sometimes they get nipped as well. One vet had an interesting solution that seemed to work - they had this small electrical tool which looked (and worked) like a small Dremel drill, on the end was a soft, flexible pad which felt like a soft sandpaper. When turned on the tool would spin the pad very rapidly, like a mini-sander and my parents would actually sand down the nails. I would NOT recommend using a Dremel (way too powerful), but your Vet or pet supply store can probably point you in the right direction. The funny part is that the dog actually liked getting her toenails sanded...
