Anyone know of a good solution for dog ear infections?

I have a 3 year old golden retriever and since we bought her (when she was 4 months old) she has had a constant ear infection. It comes and goes all the time. The vet will get it really clean and i just can't seem to keep it under control. We've tried different medicines and I've even kept her ear hair trimmed to try to keep moisture out. ANY suggestions are welcome. THANKS!!

Your dog could have one of several chronic problems...our dog has a slight thyroid issue which causes constant yeast infections in his ear. He also had a type of infection caused by "rods" which, if left untreated by antibiotics for a certain period of time, will never go away. Our vet prescribed a strong antibiotic to be taken for 30 days (versus the typical 2 weeks), as well as antibiotic eardrops and antifungal eardrops (for the yeast infections). We also have to clean his ears out once a week and after swimming with Corium (made by Virbac, you can get it at your vet's). I know it sounds like a lot, but our dog is much better now. Boy, I would have said clean it out and put her on antibiotics, before I read your details. Can you try calling different vets and asking for advice? Maybe she has a problem way down in her ear that needs addressing. Poor girl!

Well maybe your dog breed is prone to ear infections.....but awhile ago my dog (an Australian Terrier) was starting to get an ear infection cause I could see redness and he was shaking his head. I bought both "Petgold" Ear Cleaner and Mite X Ear Mite Remedy from Petco and have been using it on him every so often and he's never had any more infections. Just try to keep trimming the hairs around his ear canal and follow the directions on the bottles of ear cleaners. Good Luck!!
