Is there a thing that can help clean my dogs tear stains? My 4 month old dog lives outside and eats Nutro Natural Lamb and Rice Puppy Food. I've heard of many different methods/remedies to help clean tear stains. Like contact solutions will loosen up the crusties (will Boston Eye Solution Simplus work?), vaseline, milk mixed with cornstarch, tums, changing food, giving bottled/filtered water, wiping your dogs eyes with tea, wiping with warm towels, white cider vinegar, etc. What do you think is the best remedy for cleaning tear stains? And what's the best way to prevent tear stains from coming back?
P.S. I already cut the hair around my dogs eyes, but the tears keep coming out and won't stop.
Yorkie has tear stain problem?
first bring your dog inside. yorkie's are not meant to be outdoors. what are you thinking? they are easy prey to many animals, and will more than likely end up having tear stain issues being the least of your worries. bring your poor little dog inside. don't keep changing your dog's food, this can upset their stomaches. take the dog to the vet first and make sure there isn't an eye infection causing the problem or a blocked tear duct. wiping the area with all the many things you've described can make those issues worse. if your vet doesn't find anything medically they can reccomend a product to help keep the area clean.

Yorkie has tear stain problem?
I have been raising Yorkies for around 15 yrs. and this is a common problem. It is a good idea to wipe their eyes with a warm wash cloth. I don't know of anything that they can take for it, some of my Yorkies don't have this problem. Do you think staying outside might be the problem? Is she a bigger Yorkie? I have them rangeing from 2 1/2 to 7 1/2 lbs.
Yorkie has tear stain problem?
wiping the dog's eyes with warm water regularly will help. Be very careful with anything else, as it can cause extreme irritation if it gets IN the eyes. Ask your vet about tetracyclene powder. It's a mild antibiotic you can add to food to stop the staining. The stains are actually caused by bacteria reacting with the tears, not by the tears themselves.
