they are called irish wolf hounds not russian. and hunting wolves is wrong! they are nice loveing creatures that have done nothing to mankind! the irish wolf hound is also the largest breed of dog.

The only German dog with gold fur that I know of is the hovawart. They kind that look like golden retrievers but aren't, but I don't know if they hunt wolves though

Of the breeds I know were bred for wolf hunting both the Irish and Finnish wolfhounds have shortish grey/black fur so that can't be what you mean. The Russian wolfhound or borzoi looks like a thick furred greyhound but comes in several different colors. But none of those breeds are German.

EDIT to add: Do you have a picture? Or could you give us more of a description than just size and color? What shape are the ears? The tail?

I would guess it was probably the Borzoi aka Russian Wolfhound and or the Irish Wolfhound... as a matter of fact I believe some people keep both breeds...

neither breed is from Germany

both come in a goldish coat type

Borzoi are the wolfhounds of russia, but idk of any in germany....

That would be a Weimaraner. They were bred in Germany for that purpose.
