How many times do i have to brush them a week if my cleaning people come 1 a week. i just dont want hair in my food. Its disgusting!!!!!!!!!!!
Can anyone tell me if the saint bernard is a dog for me? the only thing with them is shedding.?
You can look for a 'dry mouth' smooth St Bernard but you are still looking at a massive dog that will need lots of room to stretch out. You will also need to fit him into your car.
If you want to keep a clean house without daily cleaning, consider a dog like a greyhound or a whippet. Even a boxer will be less work.
St Bernards also have a pretty low metabolism so if you want more exercise, especially in the heat, you should consider another breed. They also need care in feeding because they are prone to growth problems as puppies and bloat as adults.

Saints come in 2 coat types, smooth and rough. The smooth variety sheds much less, and the hairs are short and coarse, so they don't fly around like the fluffy undercoat of the rough variety.
Also, if you're a neat freak, I hope you realize that Saints DROOL like maniacs!

Comb and brush with a firm bristle brush, and bathe only when necessary. Shampoo may strip the coat of its oily, water-resistant properties, so use a mild soap. The eyes, which may be inclined to water, need special attention to keep them clean and free of irritants. This breed sheds twice a year.

well i think all doggs shed their hairs at certain tyms in a year. I have a lab [short hair] and she sheds alot during spring!! Dont worry though train your dogg not to come near you when your eating. Get him in a good habit , feed him jast as your about to eat, in another room!

dont get a saint bernard if you are not gonna pay attention to him or walk him. cause saint bernards are really big and need to be walked and need a lot of open space. im just saying this cause my cousin has a saint bernard 5 years old but its been tied up all his life and never been with another dog and she doesnt walk or play with him. you can see it that he is really depressed.

LOL...if you think hair in your food is disgusting you might want to think of another breed. When you are dealing with a dog that big and with that much hair...you are going to get food in your hair. Maybe not much with the correct food and brushing schedule. However, it will happen because you WILL get hair on yourelf and it will fall into your food. Deal with it or find another breed. Another thing you may want to consider is that St Bernards are considered a drooling breed. If you can't handle a dog that drools and don't like the thought of wiping off a dog's face or getting drool flung at you, go with another breed and save everyone the heartache.
