There is this thing called a rake that i use on my golden retrievers. They love it! It feels good to them and get rid of ALL the hair, for the time being.

There's a new tool called a "Furminator" you could try.

I use a shedding blade and a shop vac!

Stand your dog up in front of you, with their head facing away... turn the shop vac on, put the hose between your legs so it sucks up the hair you shed off the dog. Use the shedding blade to whisk the dead/loose hair off your dog and into the shop vac.

Voila! Clean dog, clean house...

bought one for my self for the holidays and it was my favorite present of the year. While it didn't realize the claim that you only need to FURminator your dog every 6 weeks, I have never gotten so much fur from a dog in my life and there is certainly much less fur in my house. I kept meaning to get my camera to take photos of the all the fur that came off the dogs, but I find FURminating a bit addicting and never could seem to stop myself to run and get a camera. Then I figured, if you all wanted to see it action, all you have to do is watch the movie.

All the dogs don't mind it, even Charlee who doesn't care for grooming. The dogs that love to be groomed, absolutely love it. It must feel great for them to get rid of that dead itchy fur.

I highly recommend line brushing. You lift the coat against the grain with

one hand, and literally seperate out a line 1/2 to 1 inch wide, and brush it

out with a slicker brush until all the loose undercoat and tangles are gone.

Do this line by line until the whole dog is brushed. Then take a comb

through to get any undercoat and tangles that were missed.

There is something that you can buy at petstores called Shed Stop or something along that line. I've heard it works really well for some dogs. I have greyhounds and their shedding is very minimal so I've never had to use it.

Jennifer T knows the correct way...Line brushing and then combing.....Most people brush from the top down completely missing the underneath coat and leaving it tangled to the skin.

Also start by giving a good bath and rinse, rinse, rinse as the shampoo will want to collect in the undercoat. The warm water will help to release the undercoat and make it much easier to brush out. If you aren't able to use a hand dryer on your dog then brushing when it is 3/4 air dry until it is completely dry is very important. That will straighten the coat and pull out the tufts of undercoat...otherwise it is like a knotted shoelace in the dryer...it shrinks while drying and becomes more knotted and harder to remove. Be careful too, remembering that some of the undercoat is tangled and hurts during this removal. Inch by inch, giving praise, breaks and rewards. Brush and comb to skin once a week and in a months time you'll see wonderful results. Bathe every 4-6 weeks.
