What could be causing bald spots on dog's tail and rear end?

She chews on her tail and rear end. Bites at herself in the same spot and they are bald spots and they seem to be getting more of them each day. She chews the hair right off her body.

Could be allergies, could be thyroid, could be mange, or even hot spots. Only your vet can properly diagnose her so she can receive the right treatment to ensure good health.

Sounds like Hot spots. Sshe could have an allergy to something in her food. Wheat and corn are especially high allergens. Try Natures Recipe Venison meal and rice. You'll see huge changes within 2 weeks. Make sure its not fleas.

Fleas or some sort of skin problem. I would take her to the vet, they can give you somthing to rub on her skin to heal it. Or let you know if she has fleas ect,

Take her to the vet for the best answer. Fleas tend to congregate at the base of the tail and anus of dogs and they chew til they have no hair there, but you want to make sure that it's not something like ringworm, also, as ringworm is itchy, contagious %26amp; will also cause hairless spots.

Sounds like either an allergy or a skin condition. Take her to the vet for sure. They'll know right away. It might even just be a vitamin deficiency that causes loss of hair or itchy skin.

My dog has the same thing.

The Vet said that he is most likely allergic to fleas (just one flea bite can effect him for up to two weeks) sometimes when it gets bad he will rub his bum bum against just about anything. The vet gave me some benedryl to give him and also Predizone. I don't like to keep him on Predizone but I do give him the benedryl and a bath every week with oatmeal dog shampoo.

I would take him to the vet just to be sure.

Best of luck!

What could be causing bald spots on dog's tail and rear end?

mange

hot spots

allergic itching caused by flea bites

You should take her to the vet to see which is the cause so you can treat it and help her feel better.

If you want to try to treat her at home first, try a sulfadene shampoo in that area and see if it helps.

What could be causing bald spots on dog's tail and rear end?

A lot of dogs will have this problem in their life, they are dry spots and the dog is trying to itch and scratch it. My brothers dog has the same problem. If it isnt this, which it is treatable if it is, there's also something called Mange, its a parasite that cannot be seen by the naked eye but the animal can end up being covered and become totally bald if it continues to spread. There also could be an allergic reaction thats causing it, anything from chemicals around your house to the shampoo you use on her or even the food you feed her or even an allergy to fleas. My bet is on the first thing I mentioned, but really there can be alot of things that could be going on like the ones ive mentioned. Good luck to you.

IT IS A SIGN OF HEARTWORMS

What could be causing bald spots on dog's tail and rear end?

Not bad!!! Stop people. She has dry skin. Dogs get it just like humans. Give her a couple of tablespoons of vegetable oil with her food each day. It will take away the dryness and she wont nibble on herself anymore. Plus she will get a really nice coat.

What could be causing bald spots on dog's tail and rear end?

Sounds like hot spots and they can result from fleas, food allergies, tangled or matted hair, humidity, not drying a wet dog properly, or from dogs licking and biting themselves, often out of boredom.

Below are a few websites worth reading and they have some great home remedies too. DONT WAIT these things can grow huge in a matter of hours!!!

What could be causing bald spots on dog's tail and rear end?

alot of people dont realise their dogs have anal glands. when they get full it causes pain and irratation to the dog. and because they cant get to their bottom they bite just above their tail. get it checked by the vet and tell them you suspect it mite be anal gland issues. sounds gross but it is very common.
