Petsmart Training Classes and simply just training my dog...???

I have a mini long hair dachshund. She's 1 yr and 1 month. I really wanna get her trained...just do to simple stuff like sit, roll over, and stay. well she already kind of knows how to stay....but i say whoah not stay (lol). and she taught herslef to fetch but i dont ever say fetch we're just playing. i want to enroll her in a Petsmart training class or something. my parents say no cause it'll be tooo expensive but we haven't even looked into it yet. what are average prices for level 1 training? (through petsmart) and if i should just train her on my own...any tips?

it's right around 100 bucks.

tell your parents the biggest advantage to training classes is the socialization aspect. Your dog is exposed to other people and other dogs in a very safe way. Dachshunds can be kind of nippy sometimes, and if your dog ever bites someone that certificate goes a long way toward convincing folks you're responsible dog owners. Maybe that'll get em on your side here.

sounds like you're pretty good at the training thing anyway. Mostly training is about giving the dog words for what it does naturally so it'll do them when you want. A class for you now could really help you develop a life long skill in an area you already seem to be talented. There's another argument for them, eh?

I don't have a petsmart in my area, but at petco, its around a hundred bucks.

Sounds like you might try training her on her own since it seems she doesn't have any behavioral problems. Just take like fifteen or so minutes out of each day.

You can look around on line for different techniques until you find the one that's right for you.

before enrolling your dog in ANY classes - go there %26amp; watch how the trainer relates to the dog %26amp; the owner.

there are many good books %26amp; DVD's available to teach you how to train.

Go to www.dogproblems.com I used this site to train my dog and it has tons of info and a chat board to ask questions to professional trainers and other dog owners. It cost $37 the first month and 9.95 for each month after that. It's way cheaper than going to petsmart and you can do it at your house when you have time, and save gas money!

This site is amazing and comes with a thirty day money back guarantee if you're not satisfied.

basic training is $99 it is well worth it. even if your dog knows the basics it still helps re enforces it. she willget to play with other dogs and practice with distractions. have fun....there is never too much training.

Its pretty expensive if your wanting her to sit, stay, speak, roll over, and lay down its gonna cost up to $200 and up I called when I wanted to get my pitbull trained and found out the prices and said forget it and trained her myself and she does more then what she would have if I had taken her there besides they cant garantee that she will learn anything and if she doesnt then you can take her one more time free to try to train her again.

Training at most facilities will cost from $80-$120 per session (usually 8-10 weeks). It's a good idea to look into training at an actual obedience training facility, check your local yellow pages under dog training. There is not enough room at Petsmart to train in the store and their customers always want to stop and talk to you and your dog during class. It's rather annoying. Be sure with any class that you wish to enroll in that you watch a class that's already in session before you begin to make sure that the training style is good for you and your dog. Good luck on your training endeavors!

100 to 125 Dollars

I paid 125 at a smaller training class, because she will take children and help teach them how to train the dog

It was a good class, there were three others with children and puppies.

I think training is worth the money

I took one of my dogs through the basic class at PetSmart and it was such a waste of $$. It was $100 for an 8 week course my dog ran through the store during his graduation and they still passed him! From this experience I learned treat training was for the birds and I needed something else. I found a better way of training through Richling K9 that uses praise for rewards rather than food and not only do I now have two wonderfully obedient Golden Retrievers but the training also strengthened my bond with my dogs.
