The thing that bothers my boyfriend is that she jumps up and down a few times in the night (probably to potty or drink water) and the movement on the bed wakes him up- which i can understand can be annoying... and sometimes hair gets on his side of the bed (i think she sleeps there during the day - that used to be HER side of bed) so she's got to be mad at him too.
I'll try to put her doggy bed next to the head of my side of the bed -on the floor. maybe this will work!! (i live in NYC and have an open apartment, no doors to close and nowhere to put a crate to train her. It's a small place. I appreciate all your help!
As for the boyfriend... he's great about everything else. this is the only thing he puts his foot down about. He cooks and does laundry so I can't kick him out for wanting ONE thing. hahaha
THANKS AGAIN ALL OF YOU!
Part 2 Help! My boyfriend isnt getting along with my dog!?
Solution 1) Train the dog that he is not allowed on the bed. This may be very hard and take a while since he has always been allowed on the bed. This also does not seem fair to the dog, but you decide what is more important. In order to do this you will need patience. Every time the dog jumps on the bed say no and put him down and pet him on the floor. You may have to put her down 20 times before she stays on the floor but don't make a big deal out of putting her down until she stays down. It will get quicker and easier each day. Put somthing he likes on the floor next to your bed, maybe a towel or bed if you have one. There will come a day when the dog stays on the floor and looks at you. At that point reward him with treats and cuddles. He understands that all positive attention is given while he is on the floor.
Solution 2) I know that you said that you don't want to crate train, but I believe that that would be the easiest solution. Your dog is a yorkie, just get a tiny crate and set it beside your bed in your room. I am sure you have room for a yorkie sized crate. Get rid of the idea that crate training is mean. Dogs naturally like a place to call their own and a den like enclosure. Just get a crate that is his size and put him in it in your room at night. Check the source for links on crate training.
Solution 3) Put a baby gate in your door way (if you have one) to keep him out of your room. NEVER let him Jump on the baby gate. that is a very bad habit that needs to be stopped right when it starts.
Hope this helps.

kWhich one do you like best?
Part 2 Help! My boyfriend isnt getting along with my dog!?
Here's the bigger issue. You're a pet person, and he's maybe NOT so much. That's a BIG incompatability. Think in terms of your dog as your child. Would you put your child in a crate because your boyfriend was inconvenienced? Odds are you love your dog and will ALWAYS want pets. You will want to have a partner who feels the same way you do, or you will always be at odds. The dog was there first. Everone needs to acclimate, especially the boyfriend, because he is the new presence in the house -- and its an adjustment for everyone.

Part 2 Help! My boyfriend isnt getting along with my dog!?
If your boyfriend is not a dog lover then he isn't right for you. Could you spend the rest of your life with someone who does not like something that is such a big part of your life?
Part 2 Help! My boyfriend isnt getting along with my dog!?
Hmmm...... Maybe you consider training your dog because if you won't train your dog might still not get along with your boyfriend.
Part 2 Help! My boyfriend isnt getting along with my dog!?
The best thing that i suggest is that you should be patient and wait and he will get used to it or the dog will get tired of messing around with him and you will all be happy I hope.
Part 2 Help! My boyfriend isnt getting along with my dog!?
Well, I'd get rid of the boyfriend before I'd get rid of the dog. The reason is that your dog already loves you unconditionally, and if you get rid of your dog, it'll break his heart. The dog was there before him, so if he accepts you, then he needs to accept your dog. It's just a matter of getting used to, and a little patience on his part. Would he want to get rid of your kids if they were a bother too? I consider my dogs a part of my family, and I hope you do too. Best of luck with your decision.

Put the dog in the bathroom at night with a nightlight and close the door. Your boyfriend has a right to a good night's sleep. I don't think that's crossing the line.
My boyfriend and I both have dogs and our bigger problem is that his male is extremely jealous of me and gets very upset when I even crawl in bed at night. Then my dog gets upset that I'm getting barked at and it's a free-for-all. Nobody got any sleep until his dog found a new home in the bathtub at night. So it does work.

He moved into your apartment with you and your dog and he's putting his foot down??? Something's wrong with this picture. I'd get rid of the boyfriend.
Part 2 Help! My boyfriend isnt getting along with my dog!?
Your boyfriend will get use to the dog over time. I had to get use to sharing a bed with MY dog. You get use to it and it doesn't bother you after a while.
